Boney M.’s ‘Rasputin’ Charts Again on Global Excl. U.S. Thanks to Majestic Remix

Boney M.'s "Rasputin" returns to the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart thanks to a remix by London-based DJ Majestic.

Back in February, Boney M. hit the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart with its 1978 disco confection “Rasputin,” which debuted at No. 168 and spent a second week on the survey at No. 184. The song’s 2021 resurgence was sparked by a TikTok challenge that transformed the tune’s left-of-center energy to a charmingly mainstream interaction.

The devil works hard, but the internet works harder: Alongside the song’s chart arrival, Majestic, a London-based DJ, remixed and released a new version of “Rasputin,” and the revamped classic debuts on the May 1-dated Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 133, officially credited to Majestic X Boney M.

“Rasputin” logged 6.5 million streams and 2,600 downloads sold outside the U.S. in the week ending April 22, according to MRC Data. The song’s stream count is up 37% from the previous week, which was already up 32% from the week prior, indicating steady growth for the remix, which has already out-peaked the original upon its chart impact.

“Rasputin” isn’t the first song to double up on the Global Excl. U.S. chart. Travis Scott‘s 2016 track “Goosebumps” reached No. 113 on the Sept. 26, 2020-dated survey and has logged 28 weeks on the ranking. In December, Spanish producer HVME released a remix, gaining traction on its own, eventually climbing to No. 10 in March.
