Cardi B clapped back at Wisconsin Congressman Glenn Grothman for taking issue with her 2021 Grammys performance of “WAP” in March despite more pressing issues.
U.S. Rep. Grothman, a Republican who represents the 6th congressional district, took the complaints his office was receiving about her performance to the House floor on Thursday (April 22). “They wonder why we are paying the FCC if they feel that this should be in living rooms across the nation. I realize that [Vice President] Kamala Harris has used her fame to promote this performer, but I assure the FCC that millions of Americans would view her performance as inconsistent with basic decency,” he argued. “Wake up, FCC, and begin to do your job. The moral decline of America is partly due to your utter complacency.”
While the “WAP” rapper has had to defend her performance from Republican officials many times in the last month, she took issue with what Rep. Grothman decided to focus on this week in light of ex-Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin being convicted of the murder of George Floyd during what Cardi describes as “one of the biggest case in history” on April 20. Just half an hour before the jury returned their verdict, a 16-year-old Black girl named Ma’Khia Bryant was shot and killed by Columbus police.
“This gets me so mad ya don’t even know! I think we all been on the edge this week since we seen police brutality back to back including watching one of the biggest case in history go down DUE to police brutality but wait ! This is wat state representative decide to talk about,” the rapper responded on Twitter.

When a Twitter user echoed her sentiments about how lawmakers find her Grammys performance from March 14 more problematic than ongoing incidents of police brutality against Black Americans, Cardi also flagged the injustice served for Jacob Blake, a Black man from Wisconsin — the same state where Rep. Grothman serves — who was shot seven times in the back by Kenosha police officer Rusten Sheskey in August. Sheskey recently returned from administrative leave and “was not charged with any wrong doing,” according to the City of Kenosha Police Department press release.
“Mind you Nikkas can’t give a word about Jacob Blake or give him proper Justice but this part of the reason why !!!!!” the 28-year-old Bronx native responded. “They giving seats to F—IN IDIOTS!!This is why people gotta vote ,elect better people cause you got these dum a–es representing states.”
