James Newman’s ‘Embers’ Turns Eurovision Bust Into Top 40 Gold on U.K. Midweek Chart

Newman is eyeing a Top 40 debut for “Embers,” which is the third most-downloaded song of the week so far, the OCC reports. “Embers” bows at No. 36 on the chart blast.

James Newman, the United Kingdom’s entry into the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, suffered the ignominy of a nil points decision for his song “Embers.”

Never mind, he’s enjoying a hero’s welcome in his homeland.

Newman is eyeing a Top 40 debut for “Embers,” the third most-downloaded song of the week so far, the OCC reports. “Embers” bows at No. 36 on the chart blast and is the best-placed Eurovision song.

Newman turned a rotten result into a golden moment when his song flatlined during the Eurovision final. With a beer in hand, the Brit revved up the audience at the Rotterdam Ahoy, earning him the type of applause typically reserved for the winner.

At the other end of the Eurovision scoreboard was Italian rock band Måneskin, winner of the big prize with “Zitti E Buoni,” which earned a grand total of 524 points.

Their winning song sits just behind Newman at the midweek point in the chart cycle, at No. 37.

According to the OCC’s chart data, entries from Iceland, France, Ukraine, Cyprus and Norway could impact the U.K. Top 100, due to be published late Friday.
