Nick Carter announced on Thursday morning (April 22) that he and wife Lauren Kitt Carter had welcomed their third child. “We are proud to announce that our baby has officially arrived,” Carter tweeted along with a prayer hands emoji.
“But as a parent knows all to very well, sometimes things don’t turn out the way you plan it,” he added. At press time the couple had not revealed the name or gender of the child. “We have been experiencing some minor complications but things are looking a little better after the first night.”
Update (April 23): Carter shared an update via Twitter. “Ok. So everything is looking better but we’re not out of the woods yet. We have to stay in the hospital one more night. But Daddy and Mommy are watching baby like a Hawk. Thank you again for all your love and support. We see you,” he wrote.
The news came after the couple revealed in January that they were expecting their third after she suffered several miscarriages.
“Sometimes life blesses you with little surprises,” Carter wrote underneath the Instagram video of the sonogram while tagging his wife in the pregnancy post. The Backstreet Boys member and his wife exclusively told People about just how surprised they were by the news after they previously settled on having two children: 4-year-old son Odin Reign, and their 1-year-old daughter Saoirse Reign.
The actress didn’t know she was pregnant this time until she was five-and-a-half months along, and even thought she might have a tumor because being pregnant was the last thing she expected.
“I didn’t have any symptoms; I didn’t have anything indicating that I was pregnant,” said Kitt Carter, who didn’t think she could get pregnant again. “One day I just — I felt something move in my body and I said, ‘Nick, there’s something not right. I think I need to go to the doctor. Something’s wrong with me.’ I was not supposed to be able to have any more children, so I never assumed that I was pregnant.”
