The British rock duo’s third album Typhoons (Warner Records) flies to No. 1, and is outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined, the OCC reports.
If Typhoons holds its strength when the weekly chart is published Friday, it’ll give Royal Blood a hattrick of chart crowns, following their self-titled debut from 2014 and 2017’s How Did We Get So Dark?
Typhoons is the most purchased album (physical and downloads) over the bank holiday long weekend to lead an all-new top 8.
Merseyside outfit The Coral are on track for a sixth Top 10 album — and highest chart position since 2003 — with their double album Coral Island (Run On). It’s new at No. 2.
Just behind is Celebrating The Music of Peter Green (BMG), an all-star tribute to the late Fleetwood Mac founding member, while another live album, Pink Floyd’s Live at Knebworth 1990 (Rhino), is at No. 4 on the chart blast.
British folk singer Birdy is flying to a second Top 5 album with Young Heart (Atlantic), new at No. 5, while French heavy metal group Gojira (Fortitude at No. 6 via Roadrunner), veteran Scottish alt-rock five-piece Teenage Fanclub (Endless Arcade at No. 7 via Pema), and DIY Norwegian singer-songwriter Girl in Red (If I Could Make It Go Quiet at No. 8 via Marie Ulven) are chasing Top 10 spots.
