Sony Music Entertainment México has signed an agreement to acquire the musical catalog of the regional Mexican label and management company Remex Music, the parties announced.

While neither Sony nor Remex provided specifics on the economics of the deal, it’s worth noting that the accord includes catalog only, not ownership of the label.

Launched by brothers Domingo and  Germán Chávez in 2012 in their native Nuevo León, Mexico, Remex’s catalog encompasses wide-ranging regional Mexican sub-genres such as banda, mariachi, norteño, cumbia, sonora and sierreño.

Aside from continuing to develop its artists, which includes chart-topping band Edwin Luna y La Trakalosa de Monterrey, Grupo Pesado, Leandro Ríos, among others, Domingo and Germán will release new content pursuant to its renewed alliance with The Orchard.
