In recent years, mashups have drawn the fascination of club-goers and music lovers of all persuasions. Today, we’re celebrating the artistry behind song blending and beat matching with the latest episode of Billboard’s weekly series “Mash Up the Charts,” where prominent DJs compete by arranging two chart-topping hits that span genres.
In collaboration with Jack in the Box, episode three sees Club House Global co-founder Jasmine Solano and content creating DJ Brittany Sky stepping behind the decks to show out! This time, the pair battled to craft the best amalgam of “Best Friend” by Saweetie featuring Doja Cat and “La Nota” by the star-studded trio of Manuel Turizo, Rauw Alejandro, and Myke Towers. “Best Friend” – a club-ready cut that celebrates camaraderie off of Saweetie’s upcoming album Pretty Bitch Music – recently cracked the Top 10 of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and claimed the top spot on the Rhythmic Airplay ranking in the same week. No less, the flirty reggaeton number “La Nota,” alchemized by super-producer Tainy, entered the Global 200 and peaked at No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart.
Sky takes to the decks first, adding a glowing ambience to “Best Friend” while seamlessly giving “La Nota” an exciting dancehall spin. Solano responds in kind by amplifying the reggaeton track’s dembow riddim before gradually slowing things down to pivot to the hypnotic thump of Saweetie’s addictive hit.
This is the final week of the Mash Up the Charts series which means it’s your last chance to vote for the creator of the illest mashup. You can show the DJ who made your favorite mix some love by selecting her in the poll below. But, if you’re having trouble deciding between the two (we know, they both kill it!), option three allows you to “refuse to choose.”
