“Treating customers (people & pets) as family!”

WSTW loves pets! That’s why we’ve partnered with Humane Animal Partners (formerly Delaware Humane Association and Delaware SPCA) to bring you our Pets of the Week. Each week, we’ll show you a cat and a dog from Humane Animal Partners who need good homes.

Pets of the week

Jackson - HAP Stanton/Christiana

Jackson is a 2-year-old active boy, affectionately known as “Jaxy” by the staff and volunteers. This handsome pup came to HAP after his previous owner could no longer care for him. Understandably, after being surrendered, he is sometimes unsure who to trust and may take some time to warm up. Once he’s comfortable, Jaxy is a sweet and loving boy who adores his people! He enjoys being outdoors and loves running around our barnyard, taking in all the exciting sights and smells. He’s very treat-motivated, loves back scratches, and has a blast rolling around with his toys. Jaxy already knows “sit” and “paw,” and he’s currently working on his leash manners.

Sugar Cookie - HAP Stanton/Christiana

As her name would suggest, this lady is sweet as sugar! Sugar Cookie came to HAP when she was abandoned as a stray. Despite looking for her owner, sadly, no one came looking for her. We estimate her to be around 6 years old. While many pups may lose trust after being abandoned, that is not our Sugar! She loves people and making new friends! When she’s not leaning into your legs or climbing into your lap for love, she can usually be seen curled up on her bed for a nice, long nap. Sugar has made some doggy friends at the shelter, too, though she prefers more laid-back pups. She already knows basic commands, appears house-trained, and walks well on a leash.

Rocky - HAP Wilmington

Grab the tissues…this boy is sure to melt your heart! Meet Rocky, a resilient soul who came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner in Alabama after being rescued from a heartbreaking neglect case. When he arrived, he was suffering from severe mange, malnutrition, and flea dermatitis, his body covered in scabs, with barely any fur left. He was so dangerously underweight that his loose skin folds blended with his ribs. Understandably, this trauma has deeply affected Rocky’s ability to trust and interact with humans. With time and patience, Rocky forms deep bonds with his friends. He is incredibly affectionate, often tossing his body into your legs for scratches and pets. Despite his big boy size, Rocky is very gentle and loving with his toys, often piling them together in his kennel and curling up with them. He walks beautifully on a leash and redirects easily with a treat. Rocky also appears house-trained and knows basic commands! While Rocky’s fur may never fully grow back, he’s just as joyful and confident as any other dog. Despite his past, Rocky is still able to trust; he just needs a little time to get there. Trust us, it is worth the wait with this lover boy!

Lora - HAP Stanton/Christiana

Meet Lora, our beautiful 6-year-old tabby girl! This pretty lady was brought to HAP by some good samaritans, who had been feeding her for a few months, after she showed up very skinny to their feral colony. Once she fattened up a bit, she started to show off her sweet side, and her new friends knew that she didn’t belong in the outdoors! Lora is a super sweetheart, though she can be a little bossy at times! She likes things to happen on her terms, but when they do, she’s a very loving girl! When they don’t happen, she does give a little reminder tap that she runs this show!

Rusty - HAP Wilmington

This handsome man is a 4-year-old tuxedo. Rusty came to us from a local shelter partner when they no longer had space to keep him. He is very outgoing and quickly became a volunteer favorite! Every morning, he greets our staff with a big meow and adorable kitty eyes. Our cattery team thinks he knows how to make them feel guilty, with one sad look, they have no choice but to sit with him for some snuggles. This affectionate boy is sure to rub against your leg or curl up in your lap. Despite being a lover, Rusty has his limits and is sure to give you a light tap or nibble to let you know he’s had enough. He loves to tell you how he’s feeling and what he wants. Rusty enjoys spending his days soaking up some sun and leaning into you for head scratches!

Ronitas - HAP Wilmington

Meet our handsome black and white kitty, Ronitas! He came to HAP when he was found as a stray. We attempted to find his owners, but sadly, no one came looking for him. Our vet estimates he is about 5 years old and has previously lived in a home, based on his demeanor. Ronitas has a tough exterior and may act like a big boy at times, but spend a few moments with him and he is a sweet man. Ronitas loves to play and chase after wand toys. He often behaves more like a dog than a cat, preferring to tackle and wrestle with any toy that crosses his path. Once he’s released some playful energy, he shows off his affectionate side. He enjoys petting and neck scratches. Ronitas can be too rough for most other cats, so a home as your only kitty would be best!

ABOUT HAP

Known formerly as Delaware Humane Association and Delaware SPCA, Humane Animal Partners is committed to connecting people with animals, building strong relationships to better the community, and preventing cruelty to animals. These pillars are brought to life through programs that provide shelter and adoption for unwanted and homeless pets, reduce pet overpopulation through low-cost spay/neuter, and enable pet retention by providing low-cost wellness services. HAP has 3 locations in Wilmington, Stanton/Christiana, and Rehoboth Beach. Visit humaneanimalpartners.org to learn how to adopt, volunteer, donate, foster, and more.

ADOPTION PROCESS

Our adoption process is designed to help you and your family find the perfect match in a pet. When the right match is made, we strive to conduct our adoptions thoughtfully, transparently, and with the utmost respect. HAP asks those interested in adopting to please submit an adoption questionnaire at //www.humaneanimalpartners.org/adopt/adoption-process/  prior to visiting! All animals from HAP are spayed/neutered, given age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and examined by a vet prior to adoption.
