Zara Larsson leans into 'Symphony' meme with Lisa Frank-branded variant of new album

In 2024, "Symphony," Zara Larsson's 2017 collaboration with Clean Bandit, went viral on TikTok after people started using it to soundtrack videos that paired imagery of a happy dolphin in a rainbow-tinged sea with incongruous messages like "I have social anxiety," "I'm depressed" and "I'm scared of people." It became so popular that Zara started performing the song in concert with similar dolphin-themed visuals.
When the dolphin image first went viral, people compared it to the artwork of Lisa Frank, who's known for her happy, rainbow-hued animals, including dolphins. Now Zara has teamed up with Frank for a special edition of her new album, Midnight Sun, due out Sept. 26.
The limited-edition CD package features an animated version of Zara frolicking in an underwater paradise of dolphins, plant life and musical notes. You can preorder it now.
Zara says the collab "feels like serendipity — a full-circle moment in the best way." She adds, "From the ‘Symphony’ dolphins that trended on TikTok with so many people noting the Lisa Frank vibes, to an actual collaboration with the icon herself. It’s a little surreal."
Frank adds, "What started as fans making the connection online has now had its defining moment. Her new album is like color in sound, and blending our universes feels like the perfect way to bring that cultural phenomenon to life.”
By the way, the original dolphin artwork in the meme was by Christian Riese Lassen.

She'll be there: Mariah Carey to perform at charity concert in the Amazon rainforest

Mariah Carey has performed on stages all over the world, but on Sept. 17 she'll be singing a very unusual place: the Amazon rainforest.
Mariah is part of a concert called Amazônia Live – Today and Always, which is set to take place atop a floating stage on the Guamá River in Belém, Brazil, a city known as the "gateway to the Amazon."
The concert, produced by the team behind the Rock in Rio concerts, is designed to raise awareness about how important it is to preserve the rainforest. For one thing, according to the organizers, it's an important step in reducing carbon emissions. A documentary will capture the event, as well.
The event will take place a week before Mariah releases her new album, Here For It All.

(Square) Dance, Kid, Dance: Shinedown making Grand Ole Opry debut in October

Having conquered the worlds of rock and occasionally pop, Shinedown is now setting its sights on country music.
The "Three, Six, Five" band will be making its debut at the Grand Ole Opry on Oct. 10. Starting in 1925, the Opry is one of the longest-running radio broadcasts in U.S. history. Also airing online and on TV, it features live performances from the Grand Ole Opry House east of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. While it usually includes established and rising country stars, artists outside the genre sometimes appear, as well.
"We're beyond excited to make our Opry debut,” says Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers. "Being a kid from Tennessee, most of my early memories were watching the Opry show every weekend with my grandmother and never considering standing on that legendary stage to even be an option. Now that it is, we couldn't be happier to be a part of such a historical year of Opry history."
The band's appearance is part of the Opry's 100th anniversary celebration, which is taking place throughout October. Get tickets at Opry.com.
Shinedown recently hit #1 on the rock chart with their latest single, "Killing Fields," following the #1 success of "Three, Six, Five" and "Dance, Kid, Dance."

Zara Larsson on MTV VMA nod, Tate and her upcoming tour: 'I wanna give the crowd everything'

It's a busy weekend for Zara Larsson: She's opening for Tate McRae in Philadelphia on Saturday, and on Sunday, she'll attend the MTV VMAs, where her video for "Pretty Ugly" is up for best choreography.
"I was so, so happy because it was my first song that I released from this era," she says of the nod. "And it's very different from what I've released before. It's quite obnoxious, but I just felt like it would do a lot for me artistically."
The song and the video, choreographed by Zoï Tatopoulos, are "a lot of energy," Zara notes. "It's kind of this song where I just kind of kick the door down, and having that recognized at the VMAs is really big for me."
As for her stint opening for Tate, the "Crush" singer thinks she and the Canadian pop queen are a "match made in heaven."
"I feel like our fans really kind of overlap ... obviously, they bought tickets to see Tate ... a girl who is such a performer, and that's what I strive to be," she says. "[We both] dance a lot, sing up-tempo pop songs, so I feel like [fans] are really enjoying it."
Plus, it's a good advertisement for her own Midnight Sun tour in early 2026: "I can be like, 'If you want to see the full thing, come and see me!'" she laughs, adding, "I do feel like this whole era is some sort of reintroduction to, especially, America because I really haven't been touring much here at all."
"I just wanna give the crowd everything I can," says Zara, who plans a show that mixes "warm and organic" and "cool futuristic:" "It's gonna be fun to see how we're gonna mix those two things."
Tickets are on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Watch Sabrina Carpenter's boyfriend die in a different way in alternate 'Tears' video ending

In the original version of her video for "Tears," Sabrina Carpenter ends up killing her boyfriend by impaling him with one of her stiletto heels, explaining, "Someone has to die every video." But Sabrina has now released the video with an alternate ending, but, spoiler alert, the guy still dies.
In the alternate ending, Sabrina's boyfriend, who we assume perished in the car crash in the opening of the clip, staggers toward her, saying, "Babe! I'm so glad you're OK. I've been looking everywhere for you." Then lightning strikes very close to him, startling him.
"Woah! That was close!" he says.
"I'd say so!" Sabrina agrees, before warning him, "Oh, you should probably move over."
At that very moment, a huge tree, presumably struck by the lightning bolt, falls over and crushes him.
"I told him to move over," Sabrina shrugs.
The bulk of the video finds Sabrina in a Rocky Horror Picture Show-inspired situation, partying in a spooky old mansion with a bunch of odd-looking characters, led by Colman Domingo in drag. You can see some behind-the-scenes photos of the making of the clip on Sabrina's Instagram.

BigXthaPlug drops trailer for 'I Hope You're Happy'

BigXthaPlug has shared the official album trailer for his new album, I Hope You're Happy, giving fans a tease of his song with Darius Rucker. The clip starts with a closeup of a woman crying and laughing, before it zooms out to show she's sitting in front of a burning house. It's soundtracked to the title track, specifically Darius' contribution to the hook.
“I hope you’re happy with somebody new,” Darius sings to a former lover. “The way that I was when I had you/ And I hope he won’t break your heart/ And waste all your time/ I hope you’re happy with the way you broke mine.”
BigXthaPlug tells Billboard the song "I Hope You're Happy" is what inspired his marketing team to suggest that he change the title of the album from Not Just Country to I Hope You're Happy.
"I didn't want to just put myself out there as just a country artist or just a rap artist. I wanted to let the world know that I was an artist period," he says of the album's original title.
Halfway through the album-making process, however, BigX says he was experiencing heartbreak, which led to him writing a letter to his ex via the song "I Hope You're Happy."
I Hope You're Happy arrives on Friday. It features a star-studded list of country stars, including Bailey Zimmerman, Shaboozey, Ella Langley and Jelly Roll.

Sabrina Carpenter has been hosting private "play dates" for her new album, Man's Best Friend, but if you're not lucky enough to get invited to one of those, you'll still be able to hear the album surrounded by like-minded fans, aka Carpenters.
