Music notes: Jonas Brothers, Sara Bareilles and more

Jonas Brothers have released a new music video of sorts: It's a scene from their new Disney+/Hulu movie, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie. In the scene, Nick Jonas ends up duetting with a former nemesis of his named Ethan: In the fictional world of the movie, they starred together in a musical version of Home Alone, with Nick playing the father and Ethan playing Macaulay Culkin's role. They sing the title song of the musical, but it turns nasty since Ethan still hates Nick. You can watch it on YouTube now.
Sara Bareilles will receive the Ambassador Award at the Society of Composers and Lyricists' New York City holiday party, scheduled for Dec. 2. In addition, Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz will receive the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Talk about being 'Golden' -- Kpop Demon Hunters has been ruled officially eligible to compete for the Academy Award for best animated film.
Billboard's Holiday Albums chart is back for 2025, and an old favorite has once again returned to the top: Michael Bublé’s 2011 album Christmas. Since its release, the album has spent 61 weeks in total at #1 on the chart.
Robyn's "Dancing on My Own" has become an anthem for millennials; it's been covered by everyone from Kings of Leon to Pentatonix to Alex Warren. Now, you can ring in 2026 by seeing the Swedish pop star sing it herself: She's announced a one-off show at the Brooklyn Paramount in New York City on Dec. 31. Robyn returned to live performance on Nov. 19 for the first time since 2019.

Alex Warren reflects on achieving 'one of his biggest goals' — and proving his choir teacher wrong

Alex Warren is going to hit the road in 2026 for his first North American arena tour, Little Orphan Alex Live. Now that tickets have gone on sale, Alex has taken to his Instagram Story to share that his fans have made one of his dreams come true.
"Back when I started singing one of the biggest goals I had was to one day sell out Madison Square Garden... it seemed almost impossible but I always kept that in the back of my mind, hoping one day it would happen," he writes.
"Well I just got off the phone and we FULLY SOLD IT OUT IN UNDER 1 HOUR!!" he continues. "Words can't even describe how much this means to me."
"So many times I see these types of messages and I truly hope you believe me when I say this. I wouldn't be anywhere near here if it wasn't for you," Alex writes to fans. "Every show, every night I will always do everything I can to be there for you the same way you have been there for me. Thank you, forever thank you. I love you. You have forever changed my life."
On a lighter note, Alex posted a video of himself on Instagram with the text, "when I was a kid my choir teacher said I should quit singing... today I just sold out MSG in an hour." He wrote in the caption, "DO NOT let anyone say 'you can’t do it.'"
Alex's tour kicks off in Nashville in May. Ahead of that, he'll compete for the best new artist Grammy on Feb. 1.

Hilary Duff announces long-awaited new album, 'luck ... or something'

Hilary Duff's standard reply when she's asked about how she managed to emerge from child stardom relatively unscathed has become the title of her first new album in more than 10 years.
Luck ... or something will be out Feb. 20 and is now available for preorder. "I am often asked how I still have my head on straight after growing up in this industry. The album title is my way of answering that question," Hilary says in a statement.
"It’s luck, but there’s also a lot of weight in the ‘…or something.’ Many of the things I’ve been through along the way are held there, and I feel like ultimately that’s what’s shaped me.” The album includes her new single, "Mature."
She writes on Instagram, "So much love, late night anxiety and a little chaos went into making this album - hoping you see yourself in here the way I have. I love you and excited is the largest understatement."
As previously announced, Hilary will launch her Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour in London in January, marking her first headlining concerts in over a decade. She'll also perform in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles.

'Are you Justin Bieber?' Singer helps man whose car broke down on side of the road

Justin Bieber isn't just a global pop star — he's also a guardian angel. At least, he was to a man whose car broke down on the side of the road.
In a now-viral TikTok video, user @Bukumusic writes in the in-video text, "When your car breaks down and you've been trying so hard in life, it's just tough."
"You move to the big city, tryin' to make it like everybody else," the man says, complaining about "rich white girls driving by in their Lamborghinis." Then he looks off camera and says, "I could be trippin' but I think Justin Bieber just stopped to help me. Are you Justin Bieber?"
"Yeah, what's up bro? Justin," we hear the singer say off camera. The man starts grinning. "I love you, bro! Can I hug you?" "I love you, too, yes, sir," Justin says as he steps into the frame and the guy pulls him in for a hug. The man apologizes for recording, noting that he was already doing so when Justin showed up.
"What happened?" Justin asks. "Do you really wanna know?" the man replies. "Yes, bro," insists Justin. "OK, so, my life is f*****," the man says with a laugh. "Tell me, bro," Justin replies, as the man says he's going to stop recording.
When the video resumes, the man says, "Justin Bieber gives me the best prayer I've probably ever had." The in-video caption reads, "Thanks for the prayer and good energy, JB."
"God literally sent you Justin Bieber," one fan commented. "Is Justin Bieber your fairy godmother?" wrote another. Another person wrote, "Justin bieber rolls up & you just start trauma dumping. i would do this too lmao."

You can now see the project Ed Sheeran is 'most proud of in my career so far'

Ed Sheeran has broken multiple streaming and touring records, won countless awards, and even acted on TV and in movies — but Friday marks the release of what he calls "the project I am most proud of in my career so far."
It's his Netflix special ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran, which he made with Philip Barantini, director of the Emmy-winning series Adolescence. It shows Ed traveling through the streets of New York City performing impromptu gigs. It was all captured in a single take, a feat that required the work of nearly 1,000 individuals.
Ed writes in an email to his fans, "It felt like everything i'd ever done since being a teenager has led up to this. It was insanity shooting. We had an hour on the camera, no more, and had to do it all live in one take through the streets of New York in rush hour. Venue to taxi to highline to bus to hotel to bar to car to street to subway to venue, all playing live, in one continuous shot."
"It was stress, but so fun. Phil who made it had made two of my favourite projects, adolescence and boiling point, so it was an honour to work with him," Ed continues. "If you have a spare hour ... please go and watch it on Netflix. I’m so immensely proud of it."
You can see a clip of the special on Ed's Instagram.

Noah Kahan performs unreleased song, duets with Niall Horan at Boston benefit

Noah Kahan returned to Boston's Fenway Park — well, next to it, anyway — for a benefit concert Thursday and debuted some new music in the process.
He performed a concert at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway, a venue that's adjacent to the stadium, to raise funds for his Busyhead Project, as well as the Red Sox Foundation. The Busyhead Project is a nonprofit mental health initiative that Noah founded to raise awareness of and reduce stigma around mental health.
Ahead of the show, Noah teased new music and a special guest; the new music turned out to be his unreleased song "Deny Deny Deny." As for the special guest, former One Direction member and current The Voice coach Niall Horan joined Noah for "Northern Attitude."
MGM Music Hall posted footage of both performances on its Instagram page. In honor of the show, the city of Boston proclaimed Nov. 20 as The Busyhead Project Day.

The deluxe version of Tate McRae's So Close to What is out now, and there's a video for one of the five new songs, "Nobody's Girl."
Tate seems to be reveling in her singlehood in the post-breakup song, singing, "I am nobody's girl/ I love it so much/ It's exactly what I wanted/ I am nobody's girl/ Does it mess you up? That you had it and you lost it?"
At the end of the dreamy video, Tate is seen wearing a pair of wings as she sings, "When I ask/ the angels sing/ they say — Real love doesn't clip your wings/ I love love and affection and fancy things/ But I think I like me more."
Tate says of the new tracks on Instagram, "Was writing so much poetry while I was on tour in Europe this year & wanted to finish off this era and year with a couple more songs for you guys. This video is exactly how I envisioned these songs to feel …. Ethereal, magical, and free."
She adds that the songs "mean a lot to me" and that she was "blessed to write them" with collaborators like Ryan Tedder, Julia Michaels and Amy Allen.

25 years on, does Backstreet Boys' 'Black & Blue' still hold up? AJ McLean says yes

In the midst of Backstreet Boys celebrating the 25th anniversary of their album Millennium with their Sphere Las Vegas residency, another one of their albums has also turned 25.
Black & Blue, the group's fourth album, was released Nov. 21, 2000. It sold 1.5 million copies in its first week, making them the first group ever to have more than 1 million first-week sales with two albums back to back. The album produced the hit "Shape of My Heart" and has since sold some 15 million copies worldwide.
While Millennium seems to be universally beloved, does Black & Blue still hold up? "Yeah, it does," says Backstreet's AJ McLean.
"When I found that out [about the anniversary] a couple of days ago, I was like, 'God bless it! 25?'" he tells ABC Audio. "Because you think Millennium's already 25 years. And now you got another record that's 25 years. Like, wow. And every album has stood the test of time."
"It really is truly a phenomenon," AJ says of Backstreet's continued popularity. "And we are so blessed and so grateful. Like, it just doesn't happen. And to happen to five just regular guys just doing something that we love? It's pretty freaking cool."
But Backstreet is also looking forward in addition to looking back: They're already discussing their next musical era.
"We've had some conversations," AJ shares.
Despite his busy schedule — including the Nov. 27 release of his new solo EP, hi, my name is alex, and the Jan. 9 release of his solo album — AJ says, "There's gaps in there where we could potentially make another album. Who knows? But we are definitely talking about new music and what that might look like."
